Abington Township Police Association

Abington Township is located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania and is adjacent to Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The police Department consists of 112 civilian and sworn personnel. We serve over 56,000 people in our community.

In the late 1970's, officers of the Abington Police Department recognized the need for having their own police association. In 1980 the Abington Township Police Association (ATPA) was formed and today acts as the sole bargaining unit for all officers under the rank of Lieutenant. The very first president of the ATPA was Lieutenant Peter Hasson (Ret.), followed by Lieutenant Joseph Quinn (Ret.), Detective Sergeant William Holt, Officer Louis Clewell, Officer Kevin O'Connor, and Officer Daniel Buckley.

DICK WILLIAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Abington Township Police Association is offering an academic scholarship to any eligible township resident meeting minimum requirements as set forth:

-Abington Township Resident
-Must have graduated high school in the top 10% of his/her class
-Must be attending an accredited college/university directly from high school
-Must produce either an acceptance letter or roster from
the college/university he/she will be attending
-Must submit a certified high school transcript and brief letter
explaining why he/she is deserving of the scholarship
-Transcript, roster/letter of acceptance and request letter must be postmarked by August 30th of the application year
-Must have a clear criminal record

Each application will be reviewed by a committee established by the Williams Family and one officer from the Executive Board of the Abington Township Police Association. The number and amount of each scholarship will vary from year to year depending on the funds available and will be determined by the Williams Family Committee.
